Join JEB at the IJK

A number of JEBanoj have already signed up to attend the Internacia Junulara Kongreso (IJK) which this year is taking place in Szombathely in Hungary, from 26th July to 2nd August 2008.

If you want to know more about the congress, we recommend you visit the official IJK website, where you can read all the details about the location and programme (in Esperanto only), as well as view a list of those people who have already signed up.

This promises to be an exciting event, which presents a great opportunity to meet Esperantists from other countries and practise your language skills in a relaxed and fun environment. If you are not sure if you would like to attend and would like to know more, a good place to visit is this thread in the About Esperanto section of the JEB forums, which aims to give an explanation of the main events in the Esperanto calendar. If you have specific questions about the IJK or would like some help understanding the Esperanto on the IJK site, this thread in the Congresses and Meet-ups section of the forum is probably the best place to start.

We will be happy to answer any questions, apart from how to pronounce Szombathely :P JEB has already conducted some research into the best ways to get to the town, which is located near the Austro-Hungarian border. Vienna and Budapest are the most direct airports to fly to from the UK, and a spreadsheet detailing times and guide prices for all airlines (that we could find!) offering suitable flights is available to download from the forum. Some JEBanoj will potentially be meeting up in Vienna to catch the train to Hungary, details to be confirmed nearer the time :)

Prices for food and accommodation are very reasonable, and are detailed on the IJK website. It is worth noting that if you sign up before 30 April 2008 you will save money on your fee. A €15 deposit is payable up front, with the rest of the cost being payable on site. We initially had a few problems figuring out how to pay our deposits; the best solution seems to be to transfer the money via EAB but if you’ve got to this stage and feel confused, get in touch and we’ll do our best to advise :)

We look forward to seeing a strong JEB presence in Szombathely this summer :)

    Thanks for that Clare.

It’s worth adding that people aged 26 and under can make a request for funding to cover their travel and accommodation costs. Info here.
