Polish MPs Unanimously Back Eo For Nobel Prize
Wednesday, June 18th, 2008 by TimThe title gives a clear enough summary
The Polish Sejm (equivalent to our Parliament) has given its unanimous backing to the nomination of Esperanto for the Nobel Peace Price, 297 votes for and precisely 0 against.
Although Esperanto belongs to everyone, it was born in Poland, a country that boasts an MEP who is fluent in the language, MaĆgorzata Handzlik. She’s not the only one, either: The UK is represented by David Ferguson (Daffyd ap Fergus).
If you’ve chanced on this report and would like to know a little more about the birth of Esperanto, please feel free to avail yourself of our “About Esperanto” page.
And support for Esperanto isn’t localised merely to other lands: As of today, eight British MPs have also supported the nomination of Esperanto for the Nobel Peace Price. Gratulon al nia kara lingvo!
