An Exciting Weekend In Buxton

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008 by Radio

This weekend, five JEBanoj travelled to the beautiful Peak District town of Buxton for the second annual JEB Summer Meet-up. The event was somewhat more sparsely attended than I had hoped, but whether this was my fault for accidentally arranging it to clash with the first weekend of the UK, or Tim’s fault for vetoing the funky piece of Wordart I tried to put in the flyer, is a matter open for debate :P Nevertheless, five’s company, six is a crowd, and those of us who attended had a very enjoyable weekend indeed :) (more…)

The position is vice-president of a new programme that will prepare Chinese students to study in English-speaking universities and preference will be given to people who speak Esperanto. Unfortunately, I fear none of us will be able to apply, seeing as prospective employees will have gained a master’s degree or doctorate in teaching English to speakers of other languages, which somewhat limits the potential talent pool.

The original email is found behind the snip.

Week-Long Visit To Italy … For Free!

Semajno De Kulturo Internacia

:uk: Most of this message will be in Esperanto, since people who will react to it must speak the language. For the sake of interest, I’ll summarise it very quickly in English. I won’t go into any of the details about time and so on, since if you can’t read it in Eo, you wouldn’t be able to apply anyway.

There’s scope for young Esperanto-speakers to spend a week in Pisa, all costs covered. The mayors of six towns in the vicinity are offering twenty-five Esperanto-speakers (ten Italian, fifteen from elsewhere) accommodation and costs to visit the area and introduce the local middle-school children to Esperanto and aspects of their own cultures.
