An exciting weekend in Halifax
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009 by RadioA group of JEBanoj travelled to Halifax last week for an informal meeting to celebrate the arrival in Britain of two foreign Esperantists. Tina (from Croatia) and Karlijn (from Belgium), who have both spoken Esperanto since birth, were in the UK for a week to visit friends Rolf and Petra Fantom.
JEB met up at the Fantoms’ home in Halifax on Saturday for an evening of games and pizza. Whilst Tim demonstrated a complete lack of talent for Jenga, Clare showed herself incapable of understanding the many international variations on the game of Uno which were put forward. Fun was had by all
Later on in the evening everybody ventured into the town centre to visit a traditional English pub and the girls proceeded to lose rather badly to the boys at pool
Sunday dawned a beautiful bright sunny day, and it would have been a shame not to take advantage of it by getting out into the countryside. Rolf and Petra led everyone to the nearby Yorkshire Dales National Park, where we completed a very pleasant walk to Malham Cove, an unusual limestone formation with extensive views over the surrounding countryside. There followed a visit to a local carvery, where we had the opportunity to introduce our guests to the delights of Yorkshire puddings
A thoroughly enjoyable weekend was had by all. With luck we will be able to arrange more JEB meetings to coincide with international visitors in the future
