If you have been thinking of volunteering with Tutmonda Esperantista Junulara Organizo, your chance comes again.

A new volunteer to work in its Headquarters in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, is sought for again.

This time, the deadline to apply is the 15th January 2012.

You can read more about this in my previous blog and also (in Esperanto) on the official webpage of TEJO.

Whatever the weather, must have told himself Zamenhof just before he chose to be born on 15th December 1859.

Later on, when he was 28, he went public with his project of a constructed language striving to improve, or rather to bring a new quality into, the international understanding; but that was in July, so he was actually only 27 and a half.

Is it possible to breathe a soul into an artificial language? Nobody knew the answer then, but now we do: yes, it is, but it takes more than one man; and a better weather than the December one.

La londona JEB-renkontiĝo

Posted Thursday, 27th October 2011 at 7:20pm by Dudu in Event Reports

Smile

How to use the JEB Website

Posted Thursday, 18th August 2011 at 1:58pm by Thomas in Useful Help

JEB's website is designed to be a rich platform for sharing and contributing all sorts of content in or about Esperanto. In previous incarnations of the website, the Forum was used as the primary means of sharing content. That's no longer true; the new forum is intended primarily for discussion and chat. If you want to write an article to provide information, as opposed to discussion, it needs to go on the blog.

How to type Esperanto characters in Linux

Posted Friday, 8th April 2011 at 6:53am by Mikeo in Useful Help

If you happen to be sufficiently geeky or an advocate of open-source software (or both) and have Linux as the operating system on your computer, the good news is that pretty much all Linux distributions already have the ability to type accented Esperanto letters (ĈĉĜĝĤĥĴĵŜŝŬŭ) built in without needing an external program like Ek! (as for Windows). Smile The problem is setting your distro up to do this ...

Typing Esperanto characters on Windows with Ek!

Posted Monday, 4th April 2011 at 8:44am by Tim in Useful Help

One of the small difficulties with Esperanto is how to type the accented letters (ĉĝĥĵŝŭ) on a computer. While you can use the x notation (cx, gx, hx, jx, sx, ux) or even the h notation (ch, gh, hh, jh, sh, u) to represent those letters, it's so much nicer if you can use the proper characters.

Ek! (Esperanta klavaro) really is an incredibly useful piece of (Windows-compatible) software. Once you've got it up and running, it's incredibly easy to use.

The options screen, however, is a little off putting, especially if you're new to the language. Even if you're not, it's still not the easiest thing in the world to understand, especially when you have to make your choices on the spur of the moment.

So, to do a little to help prevent people from being to overawed to install the program, here's a little step-by-step guide about what the options are and what I'd recommend.
