Language Show 2008

Sunday, November 9th, 2008 by Radio

The London Language Show took place this year from 31 October to 2 November. Hundreds of exhibitors, from publishers to language schools, government agencies to recruiters, were in town for the biggest language exhibition of the year, and it was only fitting that the Esperanto Association of Britain should be well represented too. As has become customary over the last few years, a variety of JEB members were in attendance to assist EAB in promoting Esperanto :) (more…)

The ODD Weekend

Thursday, October 30th, 2008 by Radio

Visitors to Esperanto House in Barlaston, the headquarters of the Esperanto Association of Britain, might have been surprised last Saturday to find it playing host to an event known as the ODD weekend. The ODD (or Open Democracy Discussion!) group was organised by Derek Tatton as a chance for Esperantists to come together and debate a wide variety of issues in a friendly and informal environment. JEB-anoj Tim and Clare were two of the ten participants, who over the course of two days discussed themes as diverse as the meaning of citizenship and how to appreciate fine wine. (more…)

Autumn Meet-up in Worcester

Thursday, October 30th, 2008 by Kuoso

JEB’s autumn meet-up took place on Saturday October 11th. Seven young Esperantists - Tim, Clare, Thomas, Damon, Guy, Chris (a komencanto) and Ben (from Belgium) - met up outside the Worcester Cathedral. We soon moved on to lunch in a nearby pub, where enjoyed a wide variety of food and drinks, as well as some very interesting conversation and as a short walk through the historic parts of the city.

It was particularly nice to be joined by a non-native English speaker for this latest renkontiĝo, as it inspired us to speak Esperanto more dilligently than usual; impressively, Chris - who had only been learning Esperanto for a few weeks and had never spoken the language before - was able to follow our conversation and to join in with most of it.

Once again, however, the JEB meet-up has proven to be one of the most interesting ways to spend a Saturday. The next meetup will be in the New Year - please do get in touch if you have any ideas for dates or a venue.

JEB Autumn Meet-up

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 by Radio

The JEB Autumn Meet-up has now been scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 11th in the attractive Midland city of Worcester. Details are as yet to be negotiated, but we plan to meet in a central location around lunch-time, and proceed to a pub for some food and a chat. All JEB members are welcome - we can speak as much or as little Esperanto as you like - so please get in touch, either here or at the forums if you are interested in coming along and would like more information. :)

We’re always open to suggestions as to new locations for future meet-ups, so if you can’t make this date or Worcester is too far for you to travel, please get in touch also and we’ll see what we can do next time round :)

IS 2008/2009 in Biedenkopf

Thursday, August 21st, 2008 by Radio

This year’s IS is taking place between 27th December and 3rd January in the picturesque German town of Biedenkopf. If you want to know more, you should check out the cool new IS website, where you can read all about the proposed program and see photos from last year’s event :)

As is traditional, there promises to be a high JEB turn-out this year. If you would like to join us, feel free to get in touch at the forums, where we will do our best to answer any questions you might have. This thread, which discusses the best and cheapest ways to get to Biedenkopf, may also be of use. Don’t forget that if you’re under 26 and speak Esperanto, you may be eligible to attend Esperanto events for free :)

Internacia Junulara Kongreso de 2008 en Szombathely, Hungarujo

Sunday, August 17th, 2008 by Guy

JEB get-together - Autumn 2008

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 by Radio

Having just got back from the IJK in Hungary, JEB are now looking to organise another meet-up in the UK this autumn. This will be a small, informal get-together, probably on a Saturday afternoon, at a time and location as yet to be decided :) At the moment we’re open to suggestions for a town to meet in - our most recent meetings have been in Leicester, Peterborough and Buxton - so if you are interested in coming along and would like to suggest a location convenient for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch either here or in the forums and we’ll see what we can do :) We will also be grateful if interested parties could get in touch with their preferred dates so that we can try to arrange a day convenient for all. The current thinking is late September or early October to give everyone a chance to get back from their exciting summer holidays!
