"Antagonistic & Scathing"

When I was bored the other day I started thinking about our next meet-up, and realised I actually didn't have any ideas for it at all.

That is to say, there's no point having it in January, since we're doing Ni Festivalu one weekend anyway, but it would make sense to have it before Salisbury, so perhaps it should be some time in February or March??? Unsure

If anyone has any times they definitely can't make or most crucially, any ideas for a location, this is the place to post them Cute Smile I'm hoping that if I start the thread now, by the time we actually need to think about it properly, at least one of us will have had a brainwave!

Hmm. No one seems to have had any ideas as yet, so after a little bit of thought and some brief discussion with Tim, I would like to propose Nottingham as the location for the next JEB meet-up. Let me know your thoughts, for and against. My reasoning was that quite a few of us live in the general area, and perhaps some of the people who have shown an interest in the Nottingham club might like to come along too.

It would be nice if we could organise the meeting to be in February. I would suggest we don't hold it on Valentine's Day, but otherwise I'm free every Saturday as far as I'm aware. If you're interested in coming, post in this thread if there are any Saturdays you would prefer/can't do tong

Fair enough~!
Sounds like a good idea. Cute Smile I don't know of any specific commitments that I have in February yet, but I do produce a radio show on Saturdays, so I'd need to get someone to cover that - which won't be a problem, but I'd prefer to wait until things have properly settled down after Christmas (and exams) first. So from that point of view I'd suggest one of the later Saturdays in February, ie the 21st or 28th. But that said, there's probably no reason why I couldn't sort something out for the 7th if that's more convenient for everyone else. Cute Smile

Nottingham sounds good to me as a venue ... not too far for me to come, though I would still need to stay overnight. Cute Smile As far as dates are concerned, the only Saturday I could feasibly do is the 21st February, as that's the Saturday when I don't have a youth orchestra rehearsal (part of which has now become a violin-teaching session for me).

Stay overnight? Oh dear, maybe it's not such a good location then. I didn't realise it was that far for you, I thought it would only be a couple of hours Sad

Yeah, the 21st would be fine for me and sounds like it would be suitable for Thomas too. I'll email Gavan later to see what he thinks, and obviously ask Guy too Cute Smile

Actually, it would still be OK for me to get there and back again ... and you're right about the journey times. I guess if I get there reasonably early, I could spend the day there and get back the same night - hence I would have to go during the half-term holidays when the youth orchestra isn't rehearsing. Cute Smile

Can I make a suggestion for the meet-up that we don't eat in Wetherspoons? tong I don't mind sitting drinking there for the rest of the afternoon because obviously I realise it's cheap, but I'd rather have lunch in Macdonalds even than endure another portion of Wetherspoon's undercooked chips Sad Not that I'm fussy or anything Blush 2

I can recommend a pub called the Navigation. It's a non-chain pub, quite near the station and does relatively cheap drinks and food. I've only eaten there once and I don't really the menu other than the fact that there was a large range of burgers and the portions were quite large. Cute Smile It's also less than five minutes walk from the station - see point A on this map:

The spring meet-up is fast approaching Cute Smile The pub Kuoso has suggested looks good and is conveniently located, so I propose we meet there (or at the station if people prefer?) at about 1pm. Is that time okay for everyone?

Yes Cute Smile

I'll respond to Guy's PM and give him these details.

13:00, Navigation.

I'm thinking of using the Park-and-Ride trams into Nottingham so I don't have to drive and park in the centre of town ... I presume the nearest tram stop is Station Street?

I don't know how much of a bearing this will have on the renkontiĝo, but the East Midlands derby between Nottingham Forest and Derby County is kicking off at one o'clock at the City Ground (i.e. Forest's stadium) on the same day. There may well be fired-up hooligans knocking about.

Haha I suppose there may be a few, but the stadium's not in the city centre so I imagine we won't see that many football fans.

Thanks to the people who turned up.

It was a shame that Eryk was double-booked and that Chris was his usual disorganised self. It was very nice to see Darren present.

Good stuff.

Next one is looking at being Norfolk/Cambridge.

There's nothing to sign up for, no.

We tend to know who's coming, since we talk about it here and may make plans to travel together and so forth. There's always the odd surprise visitor, and we were lucky enough to have several when we last met up in London.

This is last year's thread (so I've now locked it); the relevant one for 2010's Spring Meet-up is here.
