The London Language Show took place this year from 31 October to 2 November. Hundreds of exhibitors, from publishers to language schools, government agencies to recruiters, were in town for the biggest language exhibition of the year, and it was only fitting that the Esperanto Association of Britain should be well represented too. As has become customary over the last few years, a variety of JEB members were in attendance to assist EAB in promoting Esperanto :) Read the rest of this entry »

Visitors to Esperanto House in Barlaston, the headquarters of the Esperanto Association of Britain, might have been surprised last Saturday to find it playing host to an event known as the ODD weekend. The ODD (or Open Democracy Discussion!) group was organised by Derek Tatton as a chance for Esperantists to come together and debate a wide variety of issues in a friendly and informal environment. JEB-anoj Tim and Clare were two of the ten participants, who over the course of two days discussed themes as diverse as the meaning of citizenship and how to appreciate fine wine. Autumn Meet-up in Worcester

JEB’s autumn meet-up took place on Saturday October 11th. Seven young Esperantists - Tim, Clare, Thomas, Damon, Guy, Chris (a komencanto) and Ben (from Belgium) - met up outside the Worcester Cathedral. We soon moved on to lunch in a nearby pub, where enjoyed a wide variety of food and drinks, as well as some very interesting conversation and as a short walk through the historic parts of the city.

It was particularly nice to be joined by a non-native English speaker for this latest renkontiĝo, as it inspired us to speak Esperanto more dilligently than usual; impressively, Chris - who had only been learning Esperanto for a few weeks and had never spoken the language before - was able to follow our conversation and to join in with most of it.

Once again, however, the JEB meet-up has proven to be one of the most interesting ways to spend a Saturday. The next meetup will be in the New Year - please do get in touch if you have any ideas for dates or a venue.
